FARMVILLE, Va. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s golf team wrapped up its first event of the year with a third-place finish at The Manor Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Greyhounds carded a score of 302 in the final round and Patrick McCormick (Weston, Fla.) led the team, finishing tied for eighth overall with a 7-over 223 after the 54-hole tournament.

Loyola finished behind first-place winner and host school Longwood and High Point out of the nine-team field. The Greyhounds trailed High Point by only three strokes.

"I thought it was a decent starting point," said Head Coach Chris Baloga, coaching at his first tournament at the helm. "I was definitely encouraged by everyone’s effort. They didn't get off to the start they wanted, but I thought everyone ground it out and played decent. It's a good stepping stone."

Patrick McCormick shot a 3-over 75 in the final round to finish 7-over for the tournament, tying him for eighth place. McCormick led all Greyhounds with the finish.

Ryan McCarthy (Silver Spring, Md.) improved his position from Monday to Tuesday after his closing round score of 2-over 74, the lowest round from a Loyola player on Tuesday. McCarthy finished Monday at 18th place but jumped six spots for a 12th place finish at 10-over.

Alex Redfearn (Boynton Beach, Fla.) finished four strokes behind McCarthy after a third-round score of 6-over 78. Redfearn tied for 17th with an aggregate score of 230, putting him 14-over for the event.

Jason Burton (Baltimore, Md.) made the largest jump on the team after carding his lowest round of the tournament. Burton shot a 3-over 75 on Tuesday to move him up eight spots from a tie for 27th to sole possession of 19th place. Burton finished one shot back of Redfearn, shooting an 11-over 231 at the Intercollegiate.

Jay Mulieri (Silver Spring, Md.) carded an 80 on Friday to put him in a tie for 21st. The round moved his aggregate score to a 17-over 233.

The Greyhounds return to action this week with a split schedule, as some players will go to Farmingdale, N.Y. for The McLaughlin, while others go to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell Fall Invitational. Both events run from Friday to Saturday.
