FARMVILLE, Va. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s golf team opened its fall season by finishing the first two rounds of The Manor Intercollegiate in third place on Monday. Patrick McCormick (Weston, Fla.) is tied for sixth after shooting 4-over through the first 36 holes of play.
Loyola trails only host Longwood and High Point after Monday at the tournament, held at The Manor Resort. The Greyhounds carded a score of 309 on the first 18 and improved to a 296 on the second round, as all members of the team bettered their first round scores in the second round.
Patrick McCormick led all Greyhounds and currently sits tied overall for sixth at 4-over with an aggregate score of 148. McCormick opened with a 3-over 75 before tying the team’s lowest round of 73, which he shared with Ryan McCarthy (Silver Spring, Md.).
Ryan McCarthy and Alex Redfearn (Boynton Beach, Fla.) each finished with an 8-over aggregate 152. Redfearn carded a 78 in the first round and 74 in the second, while McCarthy shot a six-over 79 before showing the biggest round-to-round improvement, shaving off six strokes in his second round with a 73. Both players are currently tied for 18th overall.
Jay Mulieri (Silver Spring, Md.) finished tied for 20th just one stroke back of McCarthy and Redfearn, shooting an aggregate 9-over 153. Mulieri opened with a 77 before shooting a 76 in the second round.
Jason Burton (Baltimore, Md.) rounds out the Greyhounds, finishing tied for 27th with a 12-over 156. Burton followed up a first-round score of 79 with a 77 on the second 18 holes.
The Greyhounds return for the final round of play on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
