Sept. 11, 2007

Pinehurst, N.C. - Junior Michael Mulieri posted a two-under par 70 in Tuesday's final round at the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate to help Loyola take third in the 13-team field. The Greyhounds, who scored well in their first tournament of the season, shot even par over 54 holes after a final round of 293 brought their tournament total to 864.

"This is a good start to the fall season," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "We scored well as a team and can be proud of our Top-3 finish at this event."

East Carolina won the tournament ahead of Day One leader Old Dominion, while the Greyhounds topped 10 teams for their solid finish. Mulieri's final round 70 brought his tournament total to 213 - a score of three-under par over two days of competition.

Senior co-captain Chris Derby was also three-under par after his final round 73. Fellow senior captain Matt Bassler also shot a 73 and finished even for the tournament with a score of 216. Also scoring for Loyola was freshman Keith Hall, who in his first college tournament posted rounds of 73-72-77. Sophomore Michael Bassler rounded out the day's scoring with a round of 83.

The Greyhounds, who are unofficially 10-2 this season, return to action and return to North Carolina September 22-23 for the Sea Trail Invitational in Sunset Beach.
