Annapolis, Md. - Matt Bassler followed his Day One score of 73 with an even-par 71 on Sunday as Loyola placed 10th at the Navy Fall Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Bassler finished fourth in the individual standings while Loyola posted a 610 in its season opener.
The Greyhounds, who began the day in 14th place, moved up in the team standings with four scorers bettering Saturday's round. Sophomore Chris Derby, who opened the season with a 76, shot a 74 to finish with a 36-hole score of 150
It was freshman Blake Furgerson, however, who had the best turn-around of the tournament. After scoring an 89 on Saturday, the true freshman settled down and posted a 79 on Day Two. Junior Will Shriver ended the tournament with rounds of 80 while Nick Brassill went 77-82 in his two rounds.
George Mason, which led after Day One, won the tournament with a 578 while host Navy placed 13th with a 614. The Greyhounds return to action on September 19-20 at the Towson Invitational.
