Golfers Shoot Strong Second Round At NCAA Columbia Regional

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team had a strong start to its day and shaved 14 strokes off its first-round score to finish the second round of the NCAA Regional at the Club at Old Hawthorne with a 6-over 294. Entering tomorrow’s final round, the Greyhounds sit one stroke shy of 11th place with a two-round score of 26-over 602.

Freshman Matt Oshrine carded a team-best 72 today, while senior Brendan Lemp shot 1-over 73. The duo is tied for 38th overall at 5-over 149.

A pair of Greyhounds are also tied for 52nd with two-round scores of 8-over 152, as sophomore Jimmy Dengler finished today at 2-over 74 and junior Bart George shot 3-over 75.

Freshman Connor Flach rounds out the Greyhounds in 73rd place with a 17-over 161. Flach shot a 4-over 78 today, a five-stroke improvement from yesterday.

Loyola finished the day tied with No. 35 Iowa for the ninth-best score and beat No. 11 Virginia (15-over 303), Denver (13-over 301), Ohio State (15-over 303) and Bryant (28-over 316).

After shooting a low team round of 18-under 270, No. 24 Arkansas jumped into a tie for first place with No. 2 Oklahoma. The squads each have a two-round total of 17-over 559, while No. 46 Missouri is third at 15-under 561, No. 14 LSU is fourth at 1-under 575 and No. 26 Arizona State is fifth with an even 576.

Missouri’s Hunter Kraus leads the individual leader board with a 7-under 137, while Arkansas’ Taylor Moore, Oklahoma State’s Jordan Niebrugge and Arizona State’s Max Rottluff are tied for second at 6-under 138.

Loyola will tee off for its final round tomorrow morning at 8:20 p.m. CT.
