ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team turned in the second-best score of the day, but it wasn't enough to overcome Saturday's deficit, as the Greyhounds finished in third place at the 2016 Patriot League Championships, played at the Naval Academy Golf Course Sunday.
Sophomore Jeremy Wall earned his second-straight All-Patriot League First Team honor, improving six places and into a tie for fifth at 2-over 215 after shooting an even 71 today.
Juniors Connor Flach and Ethan Wall also picked up all-league honors, being named to the All-Patriot League Second Team after finishing tied for seventh at 7-over 220. Wall turned in a 4-over 75 today, while Flach shot 5-over 76.
Junior Will Wears was fourth for Loyola after shooting 4-over 75s through each of the rounds, placing him 16th at 12-over 225.
Senior Jimmy Dengler and sophomore Bennett Wisner were one stroke back of Wears and finished tied for 17th at 13-over 226. Dengler shot a 2-over 73 today to improve 12 spots, while Wisner improved four after carding a 4-over 75.
Army West Point's Dean Sakata ran away with the individual title, finishing with an 11-under 202. Lafayette's Art Griffin and Bucknell's JP Raftery were second at 2-under 211.
The Black Knights, the only team to finish under par, also captured the team title with a 2-under 850. Navy took second with a 20-over 872, while Loyola was third at 24-over 876. Bucknell finished fourth at 43-over 895, followed by Lafayette (895, +45), Lehigh (907, +55), Colgate (916, +64) and Holy Cross (+82, 934).
