April 30, 2006

Orlando, Fla. - Junior captain Will Shriver led a furious Loyola rally with his third round score of 69, but it wasn't quite enough for the Greyhounds to capture a fourth straight MAAC Championship. The Greyhounds, who leapfrogged Iona and Rider on the final day of competition, posted a tournament score of 923 and placed second overall.

Shriver's 69 was the round of the day and gave the Silver Spring native a seventh-place finish. Shriver opened the tournament with a 78 and followed with an 80 on Saturday. Sunday's 69 was the second-best round of the championships - the best belonging to teammate Michael Mulieri.

Mulieri opened championship play with a 68 on Friday and closed with a 75 on Sunday. His three-round score of 220 placed him third among all individuals. Iona's Kyle Underwood took medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 215.

Sophomore Matt Bassler also place in the Top-20 with round of 81-77-78. Bassler's 236 gave him a 16th-place finish.

The Greyhounds entered Sunday's final round in fourth place after rounds of 311 and 316. Siena led from start to finish and won with a team score of 908. Iona, Rider and Niagara rounded out the Top-5.
