Redfearn, Loyola Lead On Of MAAC Championships 1st Day

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Loyola University Maryland took a one-stroke lead after the first day of action at the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships on Disney's Magnolia Golf Course.

The Greyhounds shot a 297 to lead Siena by one shot and Iona by seven.

Loyola's Alex Redfearn took the individual lead after the first day, firing a 1-under par 71 to lead by a stroke over Canisius' Michael Carrig.

Patrick McCormick and Jonathan Ross both shot 2-over 74 to tied for sixth place, and Will Handley rounded out Loyola's scoring group with a 6-over 78 to tie for 16th. Ryan McCarthy was the Greyhounds' other golfer and shot 80.

The three-day tournament resumes on Saturday morning and concludes on Sunday.
