Michael Mulieri Opens MAAC Championships With First-Round 68; Greyhounds Five Strokes Off Lead

Orlando, Fla. - Freshman Michael Mulieri posted a 68 in his first round of MAAC Championship play and leads the field after Day One at Magnolia Golf Course in Orlando, Fla. The Greyhounds, the three-time defending MAAC Championships, scored a 311 as a team and sit five strokes off the pace.

Mulieri set ablaze the Magnolia Course with a 32 on the back nine and is four strokes ahead Iona's Kyle Underwood, who is alone in second place with an 18-hole score of 72. Junior captain Will Shriver added a 78 for Loyola and is tied for ninth among all individuals.

Siena leads the field with a 306 while Iona is in second with its first round score of 310. The Greyhounds registered three golfers in the 80's with Matt Bassler (81), Chris Derby (84) and Nick Brassill (84) rounding out the team scoring.

Championship play resumes Saturday morning at 7:52 a.m. Loyola, which has won the last three conference titles, has won both of the MAAC's previous two championships held at Magnolia.
