LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Seniors Jay Mulieri and Ryan McCarthy have led the Loyola University Maryland golf team to a five-stroke lead over second-place Saint Peter's after the first day of the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course on Friday.
Mulieri leads all individuals with a 2-under 70, his sixth-straight round shooting par of under, while McCarthy is tied with Saint Peter's T.J. Sumigray and Canisius' Joe Vogl for second place, at 1-under 71.
As a team, the Greyhounds lead the way with a 2-under 286, while the Peacocks are second at 3-over 291. Canisius sits third after the first round at 10-over 298 and Fairfield (14-over 302) and Iona (15-over 303) round out the top five.
Senior Patrick McCormick and freshman Bart George are also among the leaders, as McCormick is two strokes behind Mulieri, shooting an even 72 today to finish tied for fifth. George is one shot behind that, sitting tied for ninth at 1-over 73.
Junior Brendan Lemp rounds out the Greyhounds competing, as he shot a 5-over 77 and is tied for 21st overall.
Loyola, winners of the last four-straight MAAC titles, will return to the course at 9:10 a.m., tomorrow morning for the second round of action.
