Greyhounds Tied For Lead At 2004 MAAC Golf Championships

April 23, 2004

Beuna Vista, Fla. - T.J. Shuart shot a first-round score of 73 and after 18 holes played the 2004 MAAC Golf Championships, the Greyhounds are tied for the lead with Rider with a team score of 305. Five teams are within 10 strokes of each other heading into Day Two, but Loyola hopes to carry its back-nine momentum into the weekend.

"We got off to a terribly slow start but were able to regroup later in the day," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "Things came together for us on the back-nine and hopefully that will carry us into tomorrow's round."

Senior Scott Zielinski shook off a slow start and finished strong to score a 76 while freshman Will Shriver posted a 77 for the defending MAAC Champion Greyhounds. Senior Jeff O'Brien, who re-aggravated a wrist injury during his round, scored a 79 and junior David Atkinson recorded an 85 to close out Day One.

Siena is three strokes off the pace with an 18-hole score of 308. Fairfield scored a 310 and Niagara is nine strokes back of the leaders.

The championships continue with the second 18 holes played tomorrow morning at the Palm Golf Club in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
