Golfers Eighth After First Day Of Wolfpack Spring Open

The Loyola University Maryland golf team is in a tie for eighth place following the opening day of the Wolfpack Spring Open at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The Greyhounds combined for a first-round score of 18-over 306 to finish the day tied with Columbia.

Freshman Jimmy Dengler led the Greyhounds with a score of 2-over 74, placing him in an 11-way tie for 19th place, while sophomore Bart George is two strokes behind and tied for 35th at 4-over 76.

Senior Will Handley and sophomore Brian McCormick are tied for 50th at 6-over 78, while senior Jon Ross is tied for 59th at 7-over 79.

Clemson’s Miller Capps and Brinson Paolini lead the 78 competitors with a 5-under 67 after the first round, while No. 10 Clemson leads the team race with a 2-under 286. The hosts, No. 41 NC State, sit second at 1-over 289 and No. 26 Clemson rounds out the top-three teams with a 3-over 291.

Loyola will return to the course Sunday for the second round.
