Golf Takes 6th Of 20 At Navy Spring Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Loyola University Maryland shot a final round 301 to place sixth as a team, a shot out of a tie for fourth and two shots behind third place, at the 2011 Navy Spring Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course on Sunday.

The Greyhounds totaled a score of 612 in the two rounds, one stroke back of host Navy and Rhode Island. Lafayette took third at 610, and Columbia was second with a score of 597. TCU won the event by nine strokes over the Lions. Navy's Ben Hayes won the tournament for the third year in a row, shooting 144 overall.

Patrick McCormick and Jonathan Ross led the Greyhounds on Sunday with 3-over par 74s, while Alex Redfearn was the top Loyola golfer overall this weekend.

Redfearn, who shot 74 in Saturday's rain and wind, shot 77 on Sunday to finish tied for 16th overall. McCormick checked in with a tie for 18th, one shot back of Redfearn at 152 for the weekend.

Ross carded a two-round total of 155 to tie for 29th, while Brendan Lemp improved from his 80 on Saturday to shoot 76 on Sunday and tie for 35th.

Will Handley rounded out Loyola's entry with an 83 on Sunday to tie for 68th.
