RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior Jay Mulieri is tied for the lead after the first round of the Wolfpack Spring Open Saturday, while the Loyola University Maryland golf team is tied for fifth overall. Mulieri finished the day at 1-under 71 to match NC State’s James Chapman and Lamar’s Luke Jerling for the day’s best score.
As a team, the Greyhounds sit fifth out of 17 teams at 11-over 299. Lamar leads the competition with a 4-over 292, while NC State and East Carolina are tied for second with a 6-over 294. Loyola trails Louisville by four strokes, as Louisville carded the fourth-best team score of 7-over 295 today.
Senior Ryan McCarthy is second for Loyola, sitting tied for 21st with a first-round score of 3-over 75. Sophomore Brendan Lemp is one shot behind and tied for 27th overall, while senior Patrick McCormick and freshman Bart George are tied for 38th at 5-over 77.
Loyola will be back in action tomorrow, returning to Lonnie Poole Golf Course to complete the second – and final – round of play.
