Annapolis, Md. - Freshman Michael Mulieri registered a round-one score of 71, leading five Loyola golfers in the 70's at the Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Md. on Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds posted a 294 and enter Saturday's final round only five strokes back of tournament-leading Navy.
Mulieri, who's even-par round places him in a tie for fourth place among all individuals, is three stokes in front of teammates Matt Bassler and Chris Derby. Bassler shot a 36 on the back nine to give him a round of 74 while Derby posted 37's on both sides.
The host Midshipmen are five-over-par as a team and hold a one-stroke advantage on George Washington. Villanova is three stokes back of Navy and in third place with their team round of 292 while the Greyhounds are tied with Emory for fourth overall in the 15-team field.
Saturday's final round will consist of 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m.
