WALLACE, N.C. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team sits in eighth place following the first two rounds of the River Landing Intercollegiate at the River Landing Country Club on Friday.
Senior Brendan Lemp and junior Bart George are tied for 18th overall after shooting a pair of 4-over 148s through the two rounds. Lemp and George both shot a 3-over 75 through the first round before shaving off two strokes in the second round, each finishing at 1-over 73.
Freshman Matt Oshrine is one shot behind and tied for 19th at 5-over 149. Oshrine shot a team-best 72 through the opening round, but followed it up with a 5-over 77 on his second trip through the course.
Senior Andrew McGill, competing as an individual, enters the third round tied with freshman Connor Flach at 12-over 156. McGill shot a 4-over 76 and 8-over 80, respectively, while Flach carded a pair of 6-over 78s through the two rounds.
Junior Brian McCormick rounds out the Greyhounds in a tie for 52nd. McCormick shot a 6-over 87 and a 7-over 79 to finish the day with a 13-over 157.
With a team score of 25-over 601, Loyola is just six strokes shy of cracking into the top five. VCU is at the top of the team leaderboard with a 2-over 578 and East Carolina is second at 6-over 582. Tulsa checks in third at 13-over 589, while Winthrop is fourth at 17-over 593 and Maryland rounds out the top five at 19-over 595.
VCU’s Adam Ball shot a 3-under 141 through the two rounds to lead all competitors heading into tomorrow’s final round. Wesley Conover (ECU) and Taylor Dickson (Winthrop) are tied for second with a 2-under 142.
Loyola will return to the course to conclude play tomorrow morning.
