Golf Finishes Tied For Seventh At Rutherford

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Loyola University Maryalnd's golf team shot 309 on the final day of the 2011 Rutherford Intercollegiate on Penn State University's Blue Course to finish in a tie for seventh place with George Mason and James Madison.

The Greyhounds' final round score was their highest of the weekend and brought their team total to 908 for the tournament.

Will Handley and Patrick McCormick were the team's top finishers in a tie for 23rd, shooting 227 (Handley: 73-76-78; McCormick: 80-70-77) on the par-72 course. McCormick's second-round 2-under par 70 tied for the tournament's low round.

Jonathan Ross checked in with a tie for 33rd overall, shooting 230 (79-74-77), while Jason Burton was one stroke behind in a tie for 40th (77-77-77). Brendan Lemp finished tied for 49th with a score of 234 (73-79-82).

Host Penn State won the team competition by shooting a three-round total of 880, seven strokes ahead of second-place Towson. The Nittany Lions' T.J. Howe took medalist honors with a 3-over par total of 216.

The Greyhounds are back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they play at the nearby Navy Spring Invitational.
