Williamsburg, Va. - Junior captain Will Shriver shot a two-under 69 in his first round at the William & Mary Intercollegiate to lead the Greyhounds to a team score of 302 on Monday. Shriver, the only Greyhound to break par on the day, is in a three-way tie for first-place among all individuals.
The Greyhounds are tied for 10th in the 22-team field, and sit 10 stokes behind leader Liberty after 18 holes played at the River Course at Kingsmill Resort and Golf Club. Liberty is alone at the top with a team score of 292, while Maryland and Villanova round out the top three with scores of 293 and 295.
"We started out strong, but struggled a bit down the stretch," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "We'll need to have more consistent scoring tomorrow if we want to make a move on this field."
Freshman Michael Mulieri shot an even-par 71 on Monday and is tied for fifth overall while sophomores Matt Bassler and Nick Brassill each registered an 81 in their round. Sophomore Chris Derby closed out the Loyola scoring with his 82.
The second and final round of the William & Mary Intercollegiate will take place at Kingsmill's 6,432-yard, par-72 Plantation Course. The final 18 holes will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
