Golfers Four Strokes Back After First Round Of Pinehurst Invite

PINEHURST, N.C. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team finished the first round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in third place and just four strokes shy of the leader. The Greyhounds shot a 19-over 303 on course No. 8 today and trail Belmont, the tournament leader, which had a team score of 15-over 299.

Senior Brendan Lemp led Loyola with a 3-over 74 to sit in a tie for fifth place overall. Sophomore Jimmy Dengler was one stroke behind Lemp and is in a tie for ninth place with a 4-over 75.

Junior Bart George and sophomore Fletcher Sokul both carded a 6-over 77 and are among seven players tied for 18th place, while freshman Matt Oshrine is tied for 29th with an 8-over 79.

Belmont leads the team race, followed by No. 50 UNCG in second at 18-over 302. The Greyhounds are third at 19-over 303.

Richmond’s Danny Pizetoski is the lone player to shoot under par through the first round, shooting a 2-under 69. Belmont’s Ben Simpson is second with an even 71 and UNCG’s Taylor Coalson is third with a 1-over 72.

Loyola will return to the course Monday morning for the second round with the third and final round being played on Tuesday.
