March 9, 2007

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Senior captain Will Shriver and sophomore Michael Mulieri each posted scores of 71 on Friday as Loyola claimed its third team title this season. The Greyhounds, who finished with a two-day team score of 573, won the Fort Lauderdale Spring Classic by a five-stroke margin.

"We got off to a great start with a low score on Thursday and continued to play well today," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "I'm very happy with this win and look forward to building upon these victories as the season goes on."

Shriver finished the tournament one-under par after his one-under finish on Friday. Mulieri, whose 73 was dropped on Thursday, made sure his final round would count by also shooting below par.

Junior Chris Derby, who led the Greyhounds with an opening round of 70, scored a 73 on Friday. Sophomore Blake Furgerson also posted a 73 in the closing round to finish with 36-hole score of 144. Junior Matt Bassler, meanwhile, closed out the Loyola scoring with 75 on Friday.

Loyola has now won three events this season, including two this spring. The Greyhounds captured the Navy Fall Invitational to begin the year, and won the Pala Mesa Invitational to begin the spring. The Greyhounds return to action on March 26-27, when they compete in the William & Mary Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
