Sophomores Lead Golfers To Solid Finish At Snowman Getaway

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Sophomores Bart George and Brian McCormick both shot under par as the Loyola University Maryland golf team knocked nine strokes off its second-round score from yesterday to improve one place and finish the Snowman Getaway tied with UNC Greensboro for 12th place. The Greyhounds completed the final round at the Palm Valley Golf Course with a 5-over 293 to finish the two-day tournament with a score of 904. The Greyhounds' final round performance was the ninth-best score of the day and just six strokes shy of host Washington State's 1-under 287.

No. 26 Missouri won the tournament title with an 11-under 853, while the Cougars finished second at 4-under 860 and Utah Valley was third with a three-round score of 1-over 865.

Sophomore Bart George continued to climb up the leaderboard for the Greyhounds, shooting a 1-under 71 to finish at 3-over 219, bumping him up 13 spots and into a tie for 25th place.

Freshman Jimmy Dengler and sophomore Brian McCormick also improved their scores today with Dengler carding an even-72 to improve five places and finish tied for 55th with a three-round score of 9-over 225.

McCormick finished two strokes behind Dengler after shooting a 1-under 71 today. The transfer from Colgate entered the day tied for 67th and finished the tournament tied for 61st with a score of 11-over 227.

Juniors Brendan Lemp and Cameron Liebert rounded out the Greyhounds competing, with Lemp shooting a 237 to finish in a four-way tie for 80th place, while Liebert was 87th with a score of 241.

Washington State's Michael Anderson and 18th-ranked Jace Long, from Missouri, finished tied with a tournament-best 7-over 209, while Missouri's Emilio Cuartero and Washington State's Hank Frame came in third with a 6-under 210.

The Greyhounds will return to the course on Monday, March 4 when they travel to Charleston, S.C., for the two-day Charleston Shootout.
