Fallbrook, Calif. - The Loyola men's golf team, which posted a 305 in Tuesday's final round of the Pala Mesa Invitational, closed out the 54-hole event with a team score of 902. The Greyhounds dropped one place in the final team standings and take ninth while UCLA held on to claim the tournament championship.
Sophomore Chris Derby led the 'Hounds on Day Two with a two-over par 74, closing out the tournament with a three-round score of 229. Junior Will Shriver posted a 75 and finished with a 223 while freshman Michael Mulieri closed out the tournament with a 76.
Mulieri was Loyola's top scorer, placing 12th overall with a 219. His 11 birdies placed him second in the 77-player field. Sophomores Nick Brassill and Matt Bassler rounded out the Loyola scoring with rounds of 80 and 81 on Tuesday.
The `Hounds continue their spring travels next week when they compete in the Pizza Hut Invitational in Philadelphia, Mississippi. That tournament is also a Monday-Tuesday format with 36 holes on the first day and 18 on Tuesday.
