Fallbrook, Calif. - Freshman Michael Mulieri fired rounds of 75 and 68 on Monday to lead Loyola in its opening two rounds of golf this spring. The Greyhounds, who sit in eighth place after 36 holes at the Pala Mesa Invitational in Fallbrook, Calif, wrap up play at the Pala Mesa Resort with the tournament's final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Mulieri, who registered eight birdies on the day, sits in eighth place among all individuals, while junior Will Shriver sits five strokes back with rounds of 76 and 72. Like Mulieri and Shriver, sophomore Matt Bassler bettered his second round score, posting a 74 after a Round One 77.
"We got off to sluggish start," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "But we regrouped nicely in the second round and hope to use that momentum on Tuesday to move up in the final standings."
Sophomores Chris Derby and Nick Brassill round out the Loyola scoring with 36-hole scores of 155 and 172, 31 stokes back of leader UCLA. California State San Marcos and Arizona round out the top three places heading into Tuesday's final round.
Tuesday's action will begin at 8:30 a.m. EST from Pala Mesa's par-72, 6,980 golf course.
