CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland freshman forward Cam Gregory was named the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Rookie of the Week after scoring a career-high 14 points last Tuesday night.
Gregory led the Greyhounds in both points and rebounds (8) in a Jesuit-school matchup at Saint Joseph's University marking the first time in his career that he's topped the team in point and fifth occasion in nine outings that he has paced the side on the boards.
The native of Waldorf, Maryland, leads Loyola and is third in the Patriot League in rebounding this season, averaging 6.7 per game through nine contests.
He has raised his scoring average to 5.4 per game after logging career-highs in points in back-to-back contests this season. Gregory scored 11 points, and had 10 rebounds, on Dec. 6 against Mount St. Mary's University prior to his 14-point outing against the Hawks. It was his first collegiate double-double and third time this year he's posted 10 or more rebounds.
The award is the first of Gregory's career and the second Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor this season for a Loyola player. Andre Walker earned the award after the year's first week on Nov. 17.
Loyola resumes action on Dec. 21, after a 12-day break for fall-semester exams. It will travel to Long Island for a Sunday matinee at Stony Brook University.
