Baltimore, Md. - Loyola freshman point guard Brian Rudolph (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) today was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for games played through December 9. In the game at Iona, Rudolph established his career high with 11 points, making three field goals and a perfect 5-5 from the foul line. He followed that in the win over Manhattan with a career-best four field goals, including his first career three-pointer, with four assists against just one turnover.
The 5-11 guard ranks sixth on the team in scoring (5.0 ppg) and is second in assists (28) and tied for third in steals (7). He is averaging 21.9 minutes while playing in all 10 games and he is making 44.7 percent of his shots from the field (17-38) and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line (15-20).
The award is the first weekly recognition received by the Greyhounds thus far this season. Rudolph was joined as a MAAC honoree by Rider's senior center Jason Thompson, who was named the Player of the Week.
The Greyhounds (5-5, 1-1 MAAC) are off for two weeks for final exams and are next back in action on December 22 when they visit Dayton. A visit to Illinois follows on December 28 before Loyola returns home for MAAC play when it hosts Fairfield on January 4. Putting their undefeated mark at Reitz Arena (4-0) on the line against the Stags, game time is scheduled for 7 o'clock.
