Edison, N.J. - Loyola College freshman forward Anthony Winbush has been selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for games played between December 1-7 it was announced today by the conference office. The honor is the first of his career for Winbush.
A 6-7 forward from Arlington, Va., Winbush averaged 3.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in Loyola's two games last week, both conference games as the MAAC opened the league schedule with a pair of games for all teams before breaking for exams. Since moving into the starting lineup five games ago, he has scored 20 points, grabbed 28 rebounds, handed out eight assists and collected seven steals.
It is the second consecutive year that Loyola has grabbed the top Rookie honor on the opening weekend of conference play as guard Brian Rudolph was honored for his play on the first league weekend last year. It was the first of six weekly awards that Rudolph would receive, ultimately being named the Co-Rookie of the Year by the league's coaches.
The Greyhounds step out of conference play for their next outing, hosting Coppin State at Reitz Arena on Wednesday at 7 o'clock. The game will be carried live on MASN.
