Baltimore, Md. - A new era of Loyola basketball officially tips off this Friday night at Virginia Tech. The men's basketball team, under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Jimmy Patsos, will play the first-year ACC member at Cassell Coliseum before returning to Loyola for Sunday's home opener with Navy.
The Greyhounds, with a new lockeroom, a new filmroom and new uniforms, look and feel different from the 2003-04 team that finished 1-27. Friday's game will be the first test as Loyola opens its 94th season of intercollegiate hoops.
Virginia Tech, a team that left the Big East last season, finished 15-14 a year ago and returns four starters. The Greyhounds and Hokies have met on five previous occasions and Tech has won four of those contests. The last time they played, however, was during the 1969-70 season.
