Baltimore, Md. - Reitz Arena was the place to be Thursday morning when the WJZ-TV morning show was live for a special unveiling of Loyola's new mascot and to promote Friday's men's basketball opener against Vermont. The segments took place live in the 6:00-6:30 half hour and were hosted by WJZ-TV personality Ron Matz.
Greyhounds head coach Jimmy Patsos and seniors Jawaan Wright and Brett Harvey closed the segment which also featured interviews with Loyola students Keith Masiulis '10 (SGA President) and Alyssa DeLisio '10 (SGA Director of Communication). But the biggest surprise was the unveiling of a new Greyhounds mascot. The mascot will be officially introduced to the public during Friday's opener.
Not to be lost was the tremendous showing by Loyola's spirit groups. In addition to the cheerleaders and dance team being in attendance in uniform, a large group of SuperFans wearing the newest SuperFan t-shirt were on hand to rock Reitz.
The 2009-2010 season gets underway Friday night at 7 o'clock when the Greyhounds take on Vermont. Loyola students are reminded to get their tickets in advance of the game either during the box office hours between 11 am and 2 pm or at its opening at 5 o'clock.
