Men's Basketball Hosts Johns Hopkins In Final Exhibition On Friday Night

BALTIMORE, Md. - Following a 94-48 victory over Lakehead University last Thursday night, the Greyhound men's basketball team will host Charles Street rival Johns Hopkins University in its final exhibition game on Friday night in Reitz Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m. It will be the final tune-up for the Greyhounds prior to their season opener against Towson next Saturday night.

Senior guard Andre Collins had an impressive debut for the Greyhounds in the win over Lakehead. He scored a game-high 22 points by connecting on 8 of 13 shots from the floor, including six of eight from three-point range. He also added eight assists and five rebounds while committing just one turnover in 27 minutes of action. Collins scored 11 of his 22 points in the first half.

Making his Reitz Arena debut, freshman Marquis Sullivan added 14 points on five of eight shooting from the floor as Loyola connected on 58.5 per cent of its field goal attempts, including 23 of 36 (63.9%) in the first half.

Sophomore Freddie Stanback also added 11 points and four rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

Johns Hopkins returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from a team that won 14 games last season and finished fifth in the Centennial Conference. Head Coach Bill Nelson begins his 20th season at Hopkins with a 310-186 record. Junior Danny Nawrocki led the team last season in scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game and recording seven double-double efforts.

The two teams met last season in an exhibition game at Reitz Arena as the Greyhounds used a 25-point effort from Charlie Bell to hand the Blue Jays a 74-70 loss. Bernard Allen also added 12 points, while Eric Toback led Hopkins with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Greyhounds open the regular season next Saturday at Towson University beginning at 7:30 p.m. before opening the home portion of their schedule against local rival UMBC on Sunday, November 27 at 6:00 p.m. For ticket information, call the Loyola Athletics ticket office at 410-617-2547.
