Baltimore, Md. - Loyola basketball coaches Jimmy Patsos and Joe Logan were among nine area basketball coaches who previewed their seasons Tuesday night at the Sports Legend Museum in an event which kicked off the start of the college basketball season.
The Greyhounds coaches were joined by their contemporaries from Coppin State, Morgan State, Towson and UMBC for a formal program that was moderated by long-time Maryland sportscaster Scott Garceau. The event was open to the public.
Both teams officially will begin formal practices on October 17. Loyola's men will open the refurbished Reitz Arena on the season's opening day, November 14, when it hosts long-time rival Mount St. Mary's in a game that will kickoff a weekend of festivities surrounding the 100th anniversary of the first season of Loyola basketball. The Greyhounds women get started the following day with first-round play in the USF Shootout in Tampa, Fla., against Harvard. The teams will play their first home doubleheader of the season on December 7 when the men host MAAC-foe Niagara at noon and the women follow against league-rival Rider.
