Loyola-Fairfield Men's Hoops Game To Be Played At Barclays Center

Sept. 23, 2014

BROOKLYN - Loyola University Maryland men's basketball will play a game this season in one of the NBA's premier new arenas when it takes on Fairfield University at Barclays Center. The Greyhounds and Stags will meet in the final of three games Sunday, Dec. 28, in the BROOKLYN HOOPS TM Winter Festival Presented by HONDA.

The game, which was originally scheduled to be played at Fairfield, will tip-off at 5 p.m. following the competition of contests between St. John's University-Tulane University and Hofstra University-LIU Brooklyn.

Barclays Center, which opened in September 2012, is home to the NBA's Brooklyn Nets. It has also hosted the NBA Draft, numerous college basketball games and concerts by the likes of JAY Z, The Rolling Stones and Dave Matthews Band.

"Playing in a top-flight arena like Barclays Center is a great thing for Loyola basketball, our players and our fans," said Head Coach G.G. Smith. "It is not everyday that you get to play on the floor of an NBA arena, so it's special. We make an effort, as well, to get to the New York City area as often as possible because we have a tremendous fan and alumni base there, and it is an important region for Loyola as a university. This year, with playing at Barclays Center and at Columbia University on Dec. 2, we get to have that experience twice."

Loyola and Fairfield have continued a rivalry that started as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference prior to the Greyhounds' joining the Patriot League in 2013-2014. Last season, Loyola hosted its fellow Jesuit school in November as the first of a multi-year series that will continue past this season.

The Greyhounds won last year's meeting, 59-52, and have won four in a row over the Stags, including a 48-44 victory on March 5, 2012, in the MAAC Championship Game that sent Loyola to its second NCAA Championships in school history.

Tickets for Loyola fans will be available through the Greyhounds' ticket office. Information regarding purchases will be made available in coming days. To receive information via e-mail about purchasing tickets through Loyola, submit your contact information via the secure form below.
