BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland men's basketball will host 14 games during the 2016-2017 season, part of the year's schedule released by the program today.
Five of the games, including one exhibition contest, will take place in non-conference action before the Greyhounds open their fourth year of competition in the Patriot League.
Following an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 3, against Johns Hopkins University, the Greyhounds make their regular-season debut on Friday, Nov. 11, at Duquesne University. They then open their home slate with a Wednesday, Nov. 14, game against Millersville University.
The Greyhounds then travel to Brooklyn, New York, where they will make their second appearance in the Barclays Center. Loyola played Fairfield University in the NBA and NHL venue during the 2014-2015 season, and this year, it will take on Long Island University Brooklyn on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
After the contest in the borough, the Greyhounds head to South Bend, Indiana, where they will take on the University of Notre Dame on Friday, Nov. 18.
"This year's schedule is one that we believe will prepare us well for Patriot League play," said G.G. Smith, Loyola's fourth-year head coach. "It is always a great experience for our program to play in an NBA venue like Barclays Center, and we are looking forward to playing at schools like Notre Dame and Creighton where we have not visited in a long time."
A contest on Wednesday, Nov. 23, against Fairfield sends the team into Thanksgiving, and they return from a brief break to face Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday, Nov. 26. Loyola remains on the road for its next contest, a Wednesday, Nov. 30, date on Long Island with Stony Brook University.
The 172nd meeting between Loyola and Mount St. Mary's University will take place in Reitz Arena on Saturday, Dec. 3, as part of a doubleheader with the schools' women's teams.
Two-straight road games will take the Greyhounds off-campus following the date with the Mountaineers. They will make a quick trip to Towson University on Wednesday, Dec. 7, before heading to Binghamton University on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Following the contest at Binghamton, Loyola will take a 12-day break for fall semester final exams; the Greyhounds return to the court on Friday, Dec. 23, with a home game against UMass-Lowell.
That game will be the final non-conference affair of the regular-season with Loyola opening Patriot League action on Friday, Dec. 30, at American University. All Patriot League teams play each other home and away with the final League contest of the year for Loyola coming at home on Saturday, Feb. 25, against American.
The Patriot League Championships start on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and run through the title game on Wednesday, March 8. The higher seeded team in each game will host individual games.
All dates are subject to change; game times, ticket and broadcast information will be announced at a later date on LoyolaGreyhounds.com.
