Shane James Plays Big At World University Games

Baltimore, Md. - Shane James and the Canadian National Team wrapped up competition at the 2005 World University Games in Turkey this past Sunday. James, who earned a starting role at the Games, helped Team Canada to an eight-place finish overall and a first-place finish in Group D.

Highlighting the 10-day tournament was James' double-double against Italy, where he scored 12 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out six assists. Team Canada went unbeaten in pool play, but fell to Australia on Sunday in the 7-8 game. James scored four points with four assists and a steal in the tournament finale.

Other teams in Group D included Italy, Angola and Portugal. USA won gold with an 85-70 win over Ukraine in the Gold Medal Match.

James, who will be a junior at Loyola this season, averaged 9.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and a team-high 2.9 assists per game for the Greyhounds last season.
