Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's basketball office has announced its 2004-05 non-conference schedule. The Greyhounds will play nine non-league games beginning with their season-opener at Virginia Tech on Friday, November 19.
"We're very happy with our non-conference schedule," says Head Basketball Coach Jimmy Patsos. "We play some very good teams early and have a nice group of home games for our fans."
The season unofficially begins with an exhibition at American University on Sunday, November 7. The Greyhounds then host in-town rival Johns Hopkins in a second and final tune-up before the regular season. Johns Hopkins comes to Reitz Arena on Friday, November 12 in a game scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The regular season tips off in Blacksburg, Va. on November 19 when the Greyhounds visit the newest member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Virginia Tech. The home opener is two days later against the U.S. Naval Academy.
On Saturday, November 27, the 'Hounds take on Pittsburgh, a team coming off a school-best 31-5 overall record. Playing in the Big East, the Panthers advanced to the "Sweet 16" in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Loyola will once again face Delaware and Mount St. Mary's, only this year those games will be at home. Delaware visits on November 29 and Mount St. Mary's comes to town on December 11. The 'Hounds play their final non-conference home game of the season on January 5 against VMI.
Road games also include a December 21 game at UMBC, a January 2 game at Central Connecticut State and a game at Princeton with a date to be determined.
