Men's Basketball To Open 2006-2007 Season At 2K Sports College Hoops Classic

BALTIMORE, Md. - Following its first winning season in 12 years, the Greyhound men's basketball team will open the 2006-2007 season against the United States Naval Academy in the New York Regional of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, it has been announced by event officials.

The game will be played on November 10 at St. John's University as part of a doubleheader. The host Red Storm will play against North Florida in the other game. On the following day, the winning teams will play for the regional championship while the losers from the first night will play in the consolation games. Game times have yet to be determined.

Each of the four regional round winners will compete for the Tournament Championship at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 16 and 17.

This will be the 23rd meeting between the Greyhounds and the Midshipmen with Navy holding an 18-4 series advantage. It will be the first game between the pair of local rivals since the 2004-2005 season when the Midshipmen won by 89-86 at Reitz Arena in Loyola's home opener.

Loyola had a 15-13 record last year, marking its first winning season since the 1993-1994 campaign.
