Baltimore, Md. - Men's basketball early-signee Robert Olson has been selected for the United States roster for the 2009 Charm City Challenge which will be played on April 5 at the Towson Center. The 6-4 guard from Georgetown Prep signed his National Letter of Intent with the Greyhounds in November and will begin playing at Loyola in the Fall.
Olson is one of 11 players selected to comprise the roster for the United States All-Stars and he is the only one of the 11 not committed to play at a either an ACC or Big East school next fall. Maryland and North Carolina State are each represented by two players while Clemson, Georgia Tech Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest from the ACC each have one and the Big East's West Virginia has one.
Loyola has been represented in the event every year but one in its nine-year history. Last year, current freshman Josh Wiegand played for the County All-Stars and the year prior to that both Isaac Reid and Shane Walker played for the United States team. Other Greyhounds alumni who have participated in the game are Jamal Barney, Gerald Brown, Andre Collins, Hassan Fofana, Greg Manning and Marquis Sullivan.
Olson and his Georgetown Prep teammates finished the season with a 17-7 mark and third place finish in the IAC Tournament. Earlier in the year, they captured the title at the G.P. National Jesuit Christmas Classic.
The afternoon features a doubleheader as the City All-Stars take on the County All-Stars at 3 o'clock followed by the United States All-Stars playing the Maryland All-Stars.
