Charlie Bell And Jackie Valderas Earn MAAC Sixth-Player Of The Year Honors

Buffalo, N.Y. - Charlie Bell and Jackie Valderas were each named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Sixth-Players of the Year at today's conference awards ceremony. The Greyhound women, who won the 2004 MAAC Commissioner's Cup, were also honored with a trophy presentation.

Bell, who averaged 10.5 points per game this season, led the Greyhounds in scoring for the second straight year. Helping Loyola earn a No. 9 seed in this year's MAAC Tournament, Bell pulled down 89 rebounds with 36 assists and 20 steals.

Valderas averaged an even nine points for the Greyhounds while pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game. She led the team with 23 blocked shots and a .788 free throw percentage.

On the men's side, Niagara's Juan Mendez was named the MAAC Player of the Year while Purple Eagle coach Joe Mihalich took home Coach of the Year honors. For the women, Marist's Brian Giorgis and Niagara's Bill Agronin were named co-Coaches of the Year. Niagara's Eva Cunningham was the women's Player of the Year.

Loyola's women won the 2004 Commissioner's Cup with conference titles in crew, cross country and women's soccer.
