Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Shane James was named to the 2003-04 HSBC MAAC All-Rookie team today. James has led Loyola at point guard all season and joins Canisius' Darnell Wilson, Iona's Anthony Bruin, Marist's Jared Jordan and St. Peter's Shane Nichols on the conference's all-rookie squad.
James has started more games any other Loyola player this season. Running the point, he leads the team in assists with 80 while shooting a team-high 42 percent from three-point range. The rookie out of Toronto, Ont. has had 11 double-digit performances during the regular season and finished second on the team in scoring with an 8.7 ppg average.
James scored a career-high 17 points twice during the season, most recently against Canisius on January 18. He also had nine rebounds against Canisius and a season-high six assists at Mount St. Mary's.
James is one of five finalists from whom the 2003-04 MAAC Rookie of the Year award will be chosen. The winner will be announced this Friday, March 5 during Loyola's first-round tournament game with Rider.
