EDISON, N.J. - Senior guard Andre Collins of the Loyola College men's basketball team has been named as a member of the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's basketball first team, it has been announced by conference officials.
The sixth-leading scorer in the nation, Collins ended the regular season ranked second in the conference by averaging 26.2 points per game. He led the Greyhounds in scoring in all 27 games during the regular season and recorded eight 30-point outings. Against Rider on Friday night, he became the Loyola single-season points record holder, eclipsing the previous record held by Jim Lacy during the 1946-1947 campaign. Entering the MAAC Tournament, Collins has scored 707 points.
A three-time recipient of the MAAC Player of the Week this season, Collins led the league in made three-point field goals with a school record 113 three-pointers in 310 attempts. He enters the tournament needing just four field goals to set the school single-season record.
Collins is joined on the first team by Saint Peter's senior guard Keydren Clark, Iona senior guard Steve Burtt, Marist junior Jared Jordan and Siena senior guard Antoine Jordan.
Now 15-12 on the season, the Greyhounds open the 2006 Citizens Bank Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championships on Friday night when they face ninth-seeded Canisius at Pepsi Arena beginning at 9:15 p.m. The winner of Friday night's game will face third-seeded Marist on Saturday night.
