Brown, Sullivan Are Recognized As All-MAAC Candidates

Baltimore, Md. - Loyola junior guard Gerald Brown was selected for the first team and sophomore guard Marquis Sullivan to the third team it was announced this afternoon as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference office named its all-league and all-rookie selections.

Brown was joined on the first team by Marist's Jared Jordan, Niagara's Charron Fisher, Rider's Jason Thompson and Siena's Michael Haddix. One of those five players will be named the MAAC Player of the Year when the recipient is announced at the postseason awards reception Thursday in Bridgeport, Conn.

A native of Baltimore, Md., Brown led the conference in scoring (22.1) and steals (52). He scored in double figures 26 times and was named MAAC Player of the Week four times during the regular season.

Sullivan is one of three sophomores to be recognized as he was joined on the third team by Manhattan's Devon Austin and Siena's Kenny Hasbrouck was a second-team pick. The remainder of the second team consisted of Fairfield's Michael Van Schaick, Manhattan's Arturo Dubois, Marist's Will Whittington and Niagara's Clif Brown. Joining Sullivan on the third team were Niagara's Lorenzo Miles and Darnell Wilson and Chuck Harris of Canisius.

A Westminster, Md., native, Sullivan finished 12th in the league in scoring (13.2) and second in three-point field-goal percentage (.438) and three-point field goals made per game (2.9). He started every game after the season opener and scored in double figures 21 times.

Loyola opens the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play Fairfield Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn. The No. 3 seed is the highest seed for the Greyhounds since they were seeded third in 1997.
