Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's basketball team concludes the 2004-05 regular season at Fairfield on Saturday night at 8 p.m. The Greyhounds, who have all but clinched the No. 9 seed in next weekend's MAAC Tournament, look for a win heading into postseason play.
Loyola is 6-20 this season and 5-12 in the MAAC and hopes to avenge its worst defeat of the season on Saturday. The Stags, who are 13-14 overall and 10-7 in the conference, held the Greyhounds to a season-low 35 points back on February 3. Fairfield won 56-35, but the loss sparked a three-game win streak, the school's first since 1998-99.
Junior Charlie Bell, who scored 11 points on Thursday night at Reitz Arena, leads the team in scoring with a 10.4 point-per-game average. Although the Greyhounds have one scorer averaging double figures, they have three players other than Bell posting better than nine points per game.
Both Freddie Stanback and Shane James are averaging 9.9 points per game while Linton Hinds has scored an average of 9.3 points in his16 appearances. James leads the team with 71 assists and 29 steals while Stanback is pulling down a team-best 5.3 rebounds per game.
Fairfield's top scorer this season is Terrence Todd (16 ppg) while senior Deng Gai leads the team with 225 rebounds and 154 blocked shots.
Saturday's game is the second half of a men's-women's doubleheader. The Loyola women, who also close their regular season at Fairfield, play the Stags at 6 p.m.
