Baltimore, Md. - Loyola men's basketball freshman guard Brett Harvey has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season it was announced today by the conference office. Harvey shared the honor with Canisius freshman guard Frank Turner.
A native of New City, N.Y., Harvey averaged 15.0 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds in helping the Greyhounds to a pair of wins last week. In the home finale, Harvey tallied a career-high 19 points while handing our six assists in a 95-73 win over Rider. He followed that with 11 points and five assists in a 62-60 non-conference road win at Tennessee State.
The only Loyola player to start every game, Harvey is the first Greyhounds freshman to start his first collegiate game since Brad Farrell started the opening game of the 2004-05 season. He is averaging 7.8 points and leads the team with 117 assists while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three-point range.
Loyola enters the final weekend of the season in a tie for second place in the conference standings at 11-5. The Greyhounds make the annual trip to Western New York, visiting Niagara Friday and Canisius Sunday.
