Rudolph Named MAAC Men's Basketball Rookie Of The Week For Third Time

Feb. 4, 2008

Edison, N.J. - Freshman guard Brian Rudolph was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference co-Rookie of the Week - the third time he has been acknowledged by the league this season - it was announced today by the conference office.

Rudolph helped the Greyhounds to a pair of road wins last week and shared the Rookie award with Canisius' Greg Logins. Rudolph was a solo winner the previous two times he has been honored. Rider's Jason Thompson was named the MAAC Player of the Week.

Rudolph averaged 8.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists during the two Loyola wins while shooting 70.0 percent (7-10) from the field. He equaled his career high with eight assists at New Jersey Institute and followed that with 11 points and five assists at Canisius. The 5-11 guard did not come off the floor in the second half against the Golden Griffins and held Canisius guard Frank Turner to just seven points on 2-17 shooting. Turner had scored a career-high 26 in a win over Fairfield two days earlier.

The Greyhounds have won six straight and seven of eight since Rudolph was reinserted into the starting lineup. Of Loyola's 13 wins, 11 have come when Rudolph was the starter at point guard. He is averaging 6.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists while playing 24.4 minutes per game.

Loyola continues a four-game road swing Tuesday night when it visits Niagara before finishing the regular season with five of its last seven at home. The stretch starts Thursday night when it hosts Saint Peter's at Reitz Arena starting at 7 o'clock.
