Towson Is Men's Basketball BracketBusters Opponent

Jan. 31, 2011

Baltimore, Md. - Loyola University Maryland's men's basketball team will visit nearby Towson University on February 19 in a matchup created from the pool of teams under consideration for BracketBusters games. The game will not be televised as part of the games appearing on the ESPN family of networks which was announced earlier today.

This is the sixth year that the Greyhounds have participated in the event and the third time they will be a road team for the February game. Loyola is 3-2 in the pre-determined matchups and collected a win at Tennessee State in 2007 and lost at Drexel in 2009 in the two previous road contests. In games scheduled as part of this arrangement, the Greyhounds are 5-4 with a return trip at New Hampshire scheduled for November 2011. The return game of the Towson matchup will be played at Loyola during the 2012-2013 season.

The Tigers will be the third opponent from the Colonial Athletic Association that Loyola will play this season and this is the second time the Greyhounds have drawn a CAA member as a BracketBusters opponent (Drexel, 2009). Towson is currently 4-16 on the season and winless in 10 CAA contests. The meeting will be the 70th in the series with Loyola holding a 42-27 advantage, although the Tigers have won two straight matchups after their 83-69 home win to open the 2007-2008 season.

Loyola (11-10, 7-4 MAAC) continues conference play this weekend when it visits Rider Friday and Siena Monday. The Greyhounds are back in Reitz Arena on February 11 when they host Niagara at 7 o'clock.
