Men's Basketball Hopes To Rebound With Marist

Jan. 11, 2005

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's basketball team returns to the hardwood this Wednesday night for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference showdown with Marist. The Greyhounds, coming off a heartbreaking 75-71 loss to Rider, look to get even in the conference standings with the first of two MAAC games this week. Listen

Marist enters Wednesday's game on a two-game win streak, defeating both Siena and Manhattan to give the Red Foxes a 3-1 conference record. Loyola is 1-2 in the MAAC after Rider erased a double-digit deficit to leave the Greyhounds stunned at Reitz Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams are playing with confidence and have first-year head coaches leading the way. Loyola's Jimmy Patsos has already doubled the `Hounds 2003-04 win total with wins over Niagara and VMI while Marist's Matt Brady has equaled last season's six wins in Poughkeepsie.

The Greyhounds have two leading scorers in Charlie Bell and Freddie Stanback, both of whom are averaging 11.8 points per game. Linton Hinds is also posting double figures in his five games back from injury, averaging 10.4 points for the `Hounds.

Marist's top men are Will Whittington and Will McClurkin. Whittington is averaging 18.1 points per game while McClurkin is adding 12.1 points to his team-leading 8.3 rebounds per game.

Loyola has won two of its last four home games and has scored at least 70 points in the first two games of its current four-game homestand. Wednesday's game can also be heard live on WNST AM 1570.
