Now 9-3 on the season, the Greyhounds are off to their best start since the 1941-1942 season when Loyola won nine of its first 10 games. The Greyhounds are also off to a 3-1 start in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after winning a pair of games over the weekend against the Red Foxes and Niagara University.

Senior guard Andre Collins led the Greyhounds in the two wins last week and was named as the conference's Player of the Week for his efforts. He scored 28 points in the win over Niagara on Friday night before having a record-setting effort against the Red Foxes. Collins scored a game-high 29 points and set a Loyola single-game record with nine three-pointers, including the eventual game-winner with 23 seconds remaining.

Collins ranks second in the nation in scoring, averaging 27.2 points per game. He has scored 25 or more points in each of the last five games and has not missed his last 23 free throw attempts.

Against Niagara, junior forward Hassan Fofana and sophomore forward Michael Tuck each recorded double-double efforts. Fofana had 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Tuck registered a career-high 22 points and tied another career mark with 11 rebounds. Tuck is the conference leader in field goal percentage, converting 67.1 per cent of his shots from the floor.

Canisius is 4-8 on the season and also holds a 3-1 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after defeating Marist and Fairfield over the weekend. The Golden Griffs have also won three straight games with all of them coming away from the Koessler Athletic Center. The three-game road win streak is the first for Canisius since the 1997-98 season.

Kevin Downey leads the Golden Griffs into Thursday's game. He scored 14.2 points per game after averaging 10.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in the three games last week. Darnell Wilson scored a game-high 21 points against Brown and is averaging 13.8 points per game.

Canisius leads the all-time series by a 27-12 margin and has won eight of the last 10 meetings. The two teams split last year's series with each team winning at home.

The game begins a three-game road trip for the Greyhounds, who will face Niagara on Saturday in a rematch of last Friday's Loyola win. The Greyhounds will also take on Iona before returning home on January 22 against Rider.
