Albany, N.Y. - A claim to first place will at stake tonight when two of the top teams in the conference standings meet at the Times Union Center. Siena sits alone atop the heap, having won each of its four league outings. The Greyhounds have won three straight conference games, including a pair of home contests last week against preseason favorite Marist and defending champion Iona.
Tonight's matchup also features the top two scorers in the conference and the reigning MAAC co-Players of the Week pitted against each other in Loyola's junior guard Gerald Brown (22.2 ppg) and Siena's Michael Haddix (18.8 ppg).
In its last outing, Loyola used a 15-0 second-half run to seize the lead and collect the 75-66 win over the Gaels. The Greyhounds established a school-record with 10 blocked shots in the game. Brown scored 20 points and junior forward Michael Tuck collected his fourth career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Marquis Sullivan added 13 points.
Siena swept through Buffalo last week, winning at both Canisius (78-60) and Niagara (92-81) and has won six of its last eight.
The Greyhounds return home for a pair of contests at Reitz Arena over the weekend, hosting Niagara in a MAAC contest on Friday and Towson in a non-leaguer on Monday that will be live on MASN.
