Baltimore, Md. - Loyola men's basketball guard Gerald Brown was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week it was announced today by the conference office. Brown shares the award with Siena's Michael Haddix, who interestingly will be the Greyhounds' opponent Tuesday night at the Times Union Center in Loyola's next outing.
A 6-4, 195-pound guard, Brown led the Greyhounds to a pair of conference home wins and Loyola sits one game behind Siena in the league standings. Tuesday, the Baltimore native scored a career-high 33 points in helping the Greyhounds to a 77-69 victory over preseason favorite Marist, adding six rebounds and three steals. In Saturday's win over defending champion Iona, Brown tied for game-high honors with 20 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. For the week, he shot 51.4 percent (19-37) from the floor.
Ranked among the leaders in eight MAAC statistical categories, Brown is leading the conference in scoring (22.2 ppg) and steals (2.46 spg) and is fifth in minutes played per game (35.31).
Brown was named to the conference's preseason third team despite this being his first year participating in MAAC play. He is one of three players to be honored multiple times by the conference office, the other two being Haddix and Marist's Jared Jordan, who was named the preseason Player of the Year.
