New Britain, Conn. - The Loyola men's basketball team continues its road swing at Central Connecticut State. The Greyhounds, coming off a 13-point loss at Princeton on Friday night, take on the Blue Devils at Detrick Gymnasium this Sunday at 2 p.m.
For the fourth straight season, these teams meet in the late non-conference season and the series has been very even to date. Central Connecticut has visited Reitz Arena in each of the last two seasons and has split its games with the Greyhounds. The all-time series is knotted at 2-2 and Sunday's game could be another close one.
The Greyhounds enter at 1-8, losing three of their games by less then five points. Central Connecticut is 3-6 this season and is coming off a loss to Charlotte in the championship game at the Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara, Calif.
Junior Charlie Bell, who scored 22 points at Princeton on Friday afternoon, leads the team in scoring (13.7 ppg) while freshman Freddie Stanback is close behind with his 11.8 points per game. Senior Bernard Allen, who leads the team in rebounding this season, scored his career-high 21 points against Central Connecticut in Loyola's 65-63 win in 2003.
Sunday's game is the third and final game of Loyola's current road trip. The Greyhounds return to Reitz Arena for a four-game homestand beginning on Wednesday.
