Men's Basketball Races Past Bridgewater In Exhibition Play

Nov. 6, 2014

BALTIMORE - Tyler Hubbard led four Loyola University Maryland players in double figures with 14 points, and the Greyhounds used a 18-2 second-half run to pull away for a 71-49 exhibition win over Bridgewater (Virginia) College on Thursday night in Reitz Arena.

Franz Rassman added 12 points and a team-best seven rebounds, and Jarred Jones scored 11 while blocking two shots. Cam Gregory scored 10 points off the bench for the Greyhounds.

Denzel Brito helped Loyola posted 18 assisted with just 11 turnovers, contributing seven helpers without a miscue.

The Eagles closed to within three, 40-37, on an Aaron Adams free throw with 13:05 left in regulation, but an Andre Walker layup was the first of seven-straight Loyola points that put the Greyhounds' advantage back into double figures, 47-37.

An Adams basket momentarily stopped the Loyola run, but the Greyhounds then scored 11 unanswered. Six of the points during the 11-0 stretch came on traditional 3-point plays by Gregory with layups and free throws after drawing fouls.

Gregory's second of that variety made it 58-39 Loyola with 6:37 left on the clock.

Walker added nine points for the Greyhounds, and he was one of four Loyola players - joined by Nick Gorski, Chancellor Barnard and Hubbard - with two steals.

The Greyhounds open their regular season in eight days when they travel to Lubbock, Texas, for a Friday, Nov. 14, date with Texas Tech University. Loyola returns to Retiz Arena on Sunday, Nov. 16, for a 4 o'clock tip-off against Cornell University.
